Humber Junior Squash Academy players have had a successful weekend competing in Regional tournaments. Players from the Academy took part in the North East Regional Junior Closed, held at Pontefract (boys event) and Chapel Allerton, Leeds (Girls Event), and the East Midlands Junior Closed.

Twelve local players competed in the events and showed that the future of Squash in the Humber Area is looking very positive. Yusef Forster aged 12 put in a very determined and mature performance to beat his opponent Michael Mattimore from Durham in the final to become North East Under 13's boys champion. Lucy Soulby aged 11 also showed her class to coast to victory in the East Midlands Under 13's girls.

The standard of all the players who entered was very impressive and there were a number fine performances throughout the weekend. Aisha Forster and Sarah Findley both played well in their first year in the Under 13's North East Girls. Charlotte Fish finished 3rd and Zoe Kaiser 4th in the Under 15's North East Girls, and Millie Soulby finished 4th in the Under 15's East Midlands Girls.

North East Boys Under 13's Champion Yusef Forster

James Crowther did well finishing 11th in the number 13's North East Boys, and Ben Robinson also finished 11th in the Under 15's event. The Under 17's North East Boys Event had a very strong group of players and saw James Robinson finish 6th, Nathan Kaiser 12th and Farouk Forster 15th.

Humber Academy Coach Andy Cockerill said "it's fantastic that all the players who competed did so well, and a special note should go to Yusef and Lucy who won their events. There has been a lot of work in the area to develop Junior Squash in the last few years, and I think that only a couple of years ago we would have been lucky to have 2 or 3 players competing in this event from the Humber Area. Now we have had 2 winners and a lot of entries. There are a few big Junior tournaments coming to Hull next year and this will give our players more chance to compete and develop against other highly ranked players. We hope that this will help in even more players competing and doing well from this area in the Regional Events next Year".
