Another fantastic weekend of Squash in the area saw a number of local Stars competing and winning events as Hull & East Riding hosted the Allam Humber Open Bronze Event. The event has been running for three years and has grown every year with over 100 talented Squash players competing in this years event. Boys and Girls from Under 11 up to Under 19 took part in the two day tournament.

The Under 11’s event kicked off the tournament with Molly Crowther and Lexie Ogram in the girls event and Alex Warner, Louis Harvey, and Matthew Harding in the Boys event competing for the first time at this level. Molly took home a trophy on her first attempt by winning the Girls plate, while Tom Brown and Zac Toes competed in a terrific Boys plate Final. Zac played the tighter Squash and won 3 - 0 to win. Lydia Robinson showed why she was the number 1 seed winning the Event without dropping a game. The England number 8 still has a couple of years remaining in her age group and looks as though she is a rising star from the Academy.

The Under 13’s girls event saw training partners Aisha Forster and Sarah Findley compete against each other with Aisha winning a close match 3 - 2. Aisha went on to finish in third place, and Sarah finished in fifth. The boys event saw Morgan Wild, Callum Brankling and Finlay Merrison competing in this age category at this level for the first time. Thomas Earles did well and played some good Squash and James Crowther finshed in third in a strong competition. The unseeded Crowther did exceptionally well beating the number 2 and 4 seeded players along the way.

Charlotte Fish went into the Under 15’s girls event as the number 1 seed and won the tournament without losing a match and playing some fantastic Squash. Rosie Clutterbrook was competing for the first time in a Bronze event and did well against highly ranked opponents. James Rudge, Matty Power and Kai Wei Hseih all played well in the Boys event and will have gained good experience from the tough matches they played.

Number 1 seed Millie Soulby and No 3 seed Zoe Kaiser played in the Under 17’s girls event despite still being eligible for the Under 15’s. Millie was in exceptional form and won the event without dropping a single game over the weekend. Zoe lost out 3 - 2 in a closely thought semi final and finished third while Jessie Clutterbrook played well finishing fifth. In the boys, Harry Falconer reached the final despite a strong effort from James Robinson in the Quarters. Harry almost won the event but lost in a tight match. Yusef Forster also playing up an age group did very well to win the Plate Event, winning 3 - 0 in the Final.

In the Under 19’s Boys Number 1 seed Hamish Falconer won the event for the second year running, despite a tough match against the vastly improved Nathan Kaiser in the Semi Finals. Nathan took the first game and almost won the second and the fourth before going down 3 - 1. Matty Craven almost reached the final of the plate event but went down in a close semi final match.

Humber Academy Coach Andy Cockerill said “it was another great weekend for local Squash, there were some fantastic performances from Academy players and it was pleasing to see so many competing for the first time. The fact that we won so many trophies shows the strength of junior squash in the area. The Humber Junior Squash Academy is doing a lot of work in promoting Squash and Dr Allam is really helping us put Squash in Hull on the map by supporting these annual events. With his Sponsorship of the British Open in Hull next year these are really exciting times for the Sport and the local area.”
