The first full England Squash and Racketball Bronze Event for ten years was held this bank holiday weekend at the Hull and East Riding Squash Club.
The event attracted nearly seventy participants from Under 9 to Under 17 age groups, played over the Saturday and Sunday.
The event was sponsored by Assem Allam, owner of local business Allam Marine (Generators)Ltd. Mr Allam a keen squash player himself said. "As an ex squash player and brother of a world international player, Galal Allam, I would like to ensure the city of Kingston Upon Hull and the surrounding areas are recognised as leading lights in the development of top quality squash players".
Under 11 girls had a strong local field with Amira Forster achieving her first win at a tournament. The final between Sarah Findlay and Katie Wells saw Sarah take her first trophy. The Under 11 boys also saw a very strong field with local favourite James Crowther coming out on top against Pontefract's Sam Todd.
Under 13 girls again had a strong field with Humber Academy player Millie Soulby beating Gabriella Mawson in a closely fought final. Humber Academy's Zoe Kaiser reached the final of the plate. The Under 13 boys group gave huge entertainment to the crowds. Local lads Ben Robinson and Yusef Forster both went out in epic quarter final matches, Ben to the number 1 seed 3-1 and Yusef via a 3-2 fight to the death after having 4 match balls. Isaac Rawcliffe from Chorley eventually won the tournament against suprise, but well deserved finalist Elliot Ridge from Pontefact. There was a first tournament win for Humber Academy's Andy Brown in the plate final.
Under 15 girls Kacey Henderson in her first Open tournament came Runner Up to Helen Craggs. Local new comer Jessie Clutterbrook played well and showed great promise for the future. The Under 15 boys group was graced by the British Under 13 Champion James Peach. With strong roots with Hull from his father's playing days James returned to the city to take the Under 15 title. Hull academy had two players in the plate final with Nathan Kaiser outgunning Alex Dunn.
Under 17 girls was a highly contested group which was superbly marshalled and marked by England's number 3 Under 19 Junior James Earles. James provided valuable advice to all the girls. Winner Emily Peach ( a Peach double for the tournament). The final group was the Under 17 boys which saw highly ranked Tom Lee from Pontefract get the better of Sheffield's Oliver Turner. The Humber Academy provided the Winner and Runner Up in the plate with Keiran McBride beating Phil Rook. The academy also provided the two semi finalists Matty Craven and Farouk Forster.
The event was a tremendous success with a packed auditorium on the showcourt on the Sunday. Great news for the event was when Mr Assem Allam rounded off proceedings for the day by pledging to support the event for the next year 2011.

Another great local compettion took place on Saturday 3rd December. The Eon Visual Media Humber Junior Closed 2016 had over 50 competitors from all across the Humber region! There were some fantastic matches, many could have gone either way...

Another great weekend of Junior squash in Hull took place over 28th-29th May, and it was great to see some of the local players getting involved in this tough competition.
